THREE of Aldi’s whiskies win GOLD at international drinks competition
Looking for a Father’s Day gift to help your Dad celebrate in style? Look no further than Aldi’s own label whiskies, which have once again been named amongst the best in the world. Aldi’s Scotch vied with other whiskies costing up to seventeen times as much, such as Highland Park and Johnnie Walker, to land three incredible gold medals at the world-renowned Spirits Business Scotch Whisky Masters.
The Scotch Whisky Masters, a global competition that pits spirits against each other in a series of rigorous blind taste tests, is the only awarding body to use a combination of completely independent judges, including experienced bartenders, spirits journalists, and spirits educators.
Judges awarded Highland Black 8yr Old Scotch Whisky (£12.99, 70cl), Glen Marnoch Highlands Single Malt Scotch Whisky (£17.49, 70cl) and Glen Marnoch Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (£17.49, 70cl) coveted gold medals, whilst the supermarket also added a silver medal for Glen Marnoch Islay Single Malt Whisky (£17.49, 70cl), to its ever-growing trophy cabinet.
Aldi’s Highland Black had tough competition but beat premium whisky brand Cutty Sark Original to the top spot, which retails at nearly double the price of Aldi’s bottle at £20.45. Judges noted its “sweet and delicate flavour with notes of confected fruits, boiled sweets and honey.”
This isn’t the first time Aldi’s whisky range has been given the nod of approval by experts. Last year, the range was awarded a combined 15 medals at international competitions and won Supermarket of the Year at the 2020 Icons of Whisky Scotland Awards! Why not pick up a bottle just in time for Father’s Day?
