SUMMARY:Mozart: Mass in C Minor (KV427) & Schubert: German Stabat Mater (D383)
DESCRIPTION:Mayfield Festival Choir and the Ripieno Players directed by Jeremy Summerly with soloists Sofia Kirwan-Baez\, Aneska Diament\, Francis Melville and Ed Birchinall \nIt’s hard to believe that Mozart rattled off the Great Mass in C Minor well before he was 30\, and even more surprising that Schubert can have trotted out his impressively mature Stabat mater before he was 20. But in 1783 Mozart had a point to prove. The C-minor Mass was written to showcase the vocal prowess of Mozart’s new wife\, Constanze. Mozart took Constanze to Salzburg as his Soprano soloist in order to parade her in front of his father and sister\, as well as to goad the much-despised Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg. It worked. \nSchubert had no such personal agenda: he was simply writing a lot of music in his late teens under the watchful eye of Anton Salieri. Salieri is often imagined as a twisted and jealous character\, but actually\, as well as admiring Mozart’s music\, Salieri also inspired the young Schubert to unimaginable feats of creativity. Schubert’s Stabat mater reflects well on Salierei and\, indeed\, on Schubert’s brother\, Ferdinand\, to whom the Stabat mater was affectionately dedicated. \nIn this performance\, Mayfield Festival Choir and the Ripieno Players under Jeremy Summerly are joined again by the stellar Soprano Sofia Kirwan-Baez and young vocal scholars from the Royal College of Music.

SUMMARY:Susan Calman: Tall Tales
DESCRIPTION:For the first time in ten years\, beloved comedian\, writer and broadcaster Susan Calman returns to the stage with a joyful\, whip-smart and wonderfully unhinged evening of stories\, silliness and surprise\, already adding extra dates due to phenomenal demand! \n  \nA decade older\, but not necessarily wiser\, Susan has amassed a remarkable number of improbable adventures since her last tour. Tall Tales dives headfirst into the most unbelievable highlights: from cruising the world to driving tanks\, her enduring love of cats and the trials and triumphs of getting older. \n  \nSusan said: “It’s been ten whole years since I last headed out on tour\, and I couldn’t be more excited to get back on the road. I’ve collected so many ridiculous and unbelievable stories over the last decade that it feels only right to share them in person – preferably while dancing badly. I can’t wait to see everyone across the UK again and have a joyful\, hilarious time together.” \n  \nPrepare yourself for an evening of barely believable stories\, laughter and probably some dancing. And yes\, she warns audiences in advance: you still won’t believe how short she really is.
