Hotels.com’s essential guide to recreating that hotel-feeling at home this year

#HotelBedChallenge from hotels.com

There’s nothing quite like that feeling of curling up in a perfectly made hotel bed, complete with crisp hotel linens, a selection of beautifully curated toiletries, and a well-stocked minibar at your disposal for that balcony G&T. Few people have these luxuries available at home; but with a few little tweaks, you can give your bedroom a hotel-style upgrade.

Make the bed like a pro

If you’re after fresh linens that rival the Ritz, there are a few things to consider. Always iron out your bedding for a crisp finish and focus on tucking the sheets nice and tight. Don’t forget to plump those pillows!

Create your own bedroom buddies

Nothing is more synonymous with hotel life than those iconic towel sculptures on your bed. Make your own swan, elephant, or lobster to recreate the magic at home and impress your isolation buddies.

Make a refreshment station

Working from home? How about adding a small refreshment station to your desk for hotel-style convenience: a mini kettle, a pair of matching cups and a range of delicious teas can really upgrade your workstation. Take it to the next level and add a small fridge for that minibar experience at home. Happy hour anyone?!

Indulge in the little things

Whether it’s a fragrant oil diffuser, a light-blocking eye mask, or a sumptuous robe on a wooden hanger – little luxuries can go a long way to recreating that high-end holiday hotel experience. Need some peace and quiet? Create your own ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign when you fancy a break from your lockdown companions.

Escape through soundscape

For a multi-sensory escapism experience, consider a white-noise playlist of crashing waves, tropical rainforest sounds, or a city soundscape to transport you to your dream destination as you drift away to sleep. If you are missing hotel life and fancy something more leftfield, try searching for breakfast buffet clatter or hotel elevator music.

Service please!

Room service and housekeeping might be a distant dream, but there’s no reason you can’t indulge in a decadent breakfast in bed, even if you have to prepare it yourself. Or try a DIY turn-down service. Before bed, turn down the lights, turn back the sheets and declutter the room to give yourself a restful night’s sleep.
